Mathias Grassow - Himalaya (2012 Special Edition) (Musical Philosophy)
"Himalaya" is, without a doubt, one of the most important past albums by Mathias Grassow. It´s often used for therapeutic purposes and is still regularly played by radio stations worldwide. "Himalaya" is a single 74-minute album track which constantly and slowly builds into different layers of tones and subtle sounds. After a while, it creates an extremely hypnotic effect and moves like a never-ending, changing spiral.
We are re-releasing "Himalaya" as an Eco Digipak with completely new and stunning artwork by Jesse Harrison. With respect to individual preferences, we offer 2 different audio versions of this album. Both CD Versions feature the same cover art, providing album release information for both versions!
Original Version - this is the pure 1:1 version based on the 1999 release.
2012 Version - for this version we re-transfered the original DAT Tape to a hard drive - this time in 32 Bit High Resolution. As a step before it was recorded onto the drive, we ran the file through several analogue instruments to improve the depth and stereo image of the file, because for the old release the original DAT wasn´t properly transfered and it was quite narrow-sounding (left-right and front-back). We didn´t apply any compression/maximizing on it nor did we use any other digital effects afterwards. The main focus was to profit from the warm sound of full analogue equipment to improve the sound quality and to maintain a higher audio resolution before the recording went on the CD, always with the aim to preserve Mathias´ original recording.
The difference is subtle but audible - you will find the new version sounds much more "open/spacious" and has more "depth" – meaning that all the sounds in the virtual room (speakers or headphones) are better focused on the whole axis (left-right and front-back). In other words, you may feel that the "2012 Version" is more three-dimensional, while the "Original Version" seems more two-dimensional.
To help you find your preferred version, we have included 2 players in order to enable quick comparisons between them. Both are playing exactly the same sample and length of the track. For immediate playing, especially with slower broadband connections, we suggest buffering the tracks first for a while. This can be done by starting and pausing / stopping each player after a few seconds.
We are using embedded players on our site. Sometimes, mainly for traffic reasons, they don´t appear right away. If this happens on your side, please wait for a moment until the site is completely loaded or refresh the site. If this doesn´t help, please empty the cache of your browser because some browsers retain the last site visits in their "memory" and don´t refresh automatically!
